The upcoming Zim Hip Hop Awards will have ‘Take it to the streets‘ as the new theme for 2018, the event organisers have announced.
Awards director Aldrian ‘Beefy’ Harrison said that it is important to take the culture (Hip Hop) where it began, and that is to the streets.
“Basically the culture began in the streets.Take it to the streets is this years theme. Its a push for the genre to go to its original audience hence we taking the music and culture to the streets. Other genres in Zimbabwe have large audiences because the music is deep in the streets. Its time our local Hip Hop pulls the masses,” he said.
Beefy said that this the preparations for this year’s edition are already underway and are going very well.
“This year we have added a new category and we have added a prize for the artists besides getting a plaque. We are engaging a surprise guest artist which I can not reveal as yet, but in terms of the event there will be a lot of regional personalities gracing the event.”
Beefy urged the community to get behind the team and support the Zim Hip Hop brand.
“We have literally rebranded the awards, we have added a touch of class and pizaz and it is time Hip Hop in Zimbabwe gets the respect it deserves and it starts with us the promoters of the genre,” he added.
“We have made it a point that being a winner at this edition is more than just getting an award. I have personally invested in ensuring the accolade boosts the artist career in many ways which is something new coming.”
This year’s edition of the awards will be held in Harare after last year they were held in Bulawayo for the first time.
