The importance of a good online presence for artists is now a public secret because of how it can help one to be successful in their career.
As technology and online options are changing drastically, it seems as if the majority of Zimbabwean artists are still lagging behind when it comes to creating a good online presence for themselves.
There are so many ways in which artists can create a good online presence for themselves and the use of social media is one of them.
With Facebook being the most popular social media platform in Zimbabwe, there are a few artists who have managed to take advantage of the platform and create a huge following.
Those that have managed to earn a huge following on Facebook are the ‘most established’ but most of them do not interact with their fans, thus reducing most of their posts reach.
Twitter is also another social media platform that Zimbabwean artists have failed to take advantage of. It seems as if some of them do not know how to use it or they see it as useless. Some of the Twitter accounts one will find will probably have less than 100 followers and would have been last used ages ago.
It seems as if our artists need workshops on how to use these platforms so that they improve on their online presence. Artists should also know which online platforms to put their content, a platform which is accessible to everyone and with any gadget.
Another way for artists to create a good online presence is by taking advantage of the rise in the number of Blogs in Zimbabwe. Artists and their publicists should learn to prepare press kits to send to Blogs on every move an artist make so that it is published online.
It will be embarrassing for an international artist to Google a Zimbabwean artist and fail to find impressive results. That will probably cost a Zimbabwean artist a good collaboration that would have been very important because no one would want to work with someone who does not even have a decent Twitter account.
Those artists that have a fair online presence should also make sure that they leave good digital footprints in whatever they do because, ‘the internet never forgets.’
Good and impressive digital footprints are usually good for artists especially business wise as no corporate would want to work with a controversial artist who is always creating shenanigans online.
One artist who have managed to create a good online presence is Jah Prayzah. Jah has managed to gain a huge following online with the use of social media and this is also paying off financially.
No matter how big or small an artist is, having a good online presence can help your brand to be found anywhere and at any given time.
To all Zimbabwean artists, please be vibrant on social media and take advantage of all the Blogs that you can access. We are not impressed by artists who have 10 followers on their social media or artists who do not know how to use Snapchat or Instagram.
