The third edition of the annual National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) Golf Day, held last Friday at Royal Harare Golf Club was a successful event that attracted a momentous number of artistes, corporates and administrators in the creative sectors.

The event was organised by National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation (JCMC) and it worked as a precursor to the 2023 edition of the NAMAs to be held on February 25, 2023 under the new theme ‘Unlocking Dreams’.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, NAMA Executive Director Napoleon Nyanhi emphasised that the event serves as a platform where artistes from various genres and disciplines get an opportunity to interact and market their works to potential investors or employers on the golf course.

“I believe this platform allows for creatives to engage with business leaders and vice-versa and it has the potential to build long lasting synergies beneficial for all,” said Nyanhi.

This year’s edition was the first one to be won by a female, as Faith R. Chimbambo beat her counterparts with a staggering 43 points. Prizes like printers and air tickets were given to players who came out top during the competition.

“NAMA Golf Day is the official opening event of the NAMA season which runs from the Golf Day to the actual day held every February. We have extended the entries closing date for nominations for next year’s NAMA to November 30 this year giving artists more chances of perfecting their art and entries,” she said.

This year’s event was sponsored by Old Mutual, CABS, M&G Stationary, Dariro Mode, Air Zimbabwe, SeedCo, 4 May, Tecno, Itel, Tnash Photography, Amtec Motors, Zimbabwe Independent, Moonlight and the hosts JCMC.
