Leo Maggoz’s song, Fire Emoji, has created a buzz in the local Hip Hop fraternity with several Hip Hop artists hoping on to the beat to create their own covers of the hit single.
It is the majestic grandeur and simplicity of the beat and chorus that has made Fire Emoji spread like a wild fire in the Zimbabwean music industry. Others have argued that it is the song of the year already.
But what does this mean for Zim Hip Hop?
Zim Hip Hop has for a long time failed to work as a collactive, we have had several camps working against each other, some even conniving with radio DJs so that others won’t get airplay and this one was of the major factors that led to the stagnant growth of Zim Hip Hop.
We have artists and groups that we thought were going to take Zim Hip Hop to the promised land, but alas, we kept going in circles. However we will always be grateful for the role they played in paving way for the new generation of Hip Hop artists.
For the past three years, Zim Hip Hop has been enjoying its fair share of success, the new generation of artists seem to have found the formula that couldn’t be found by their predecessors. Artists like Holy Ten proved that Zim Hip Hop can be listened to by everyone, just like Zimdancehall.
The year 2022 saw the release of Fire Emoji, a song by Leo Magozz, Brian Jeck and Bling 4. The song was produced by VinceGood Beats, mixed and mastered by Brian Jeck with the video being shot by Director Leoy V.
With extensive push on social media, the song went on to spread like a wild fire. On social media it went on to be used in reels and stories and like I said before, it is already being tipped to be the song of the year.
Many thanks to the producers of the song who released the beat and chorus for the song, and besides the remix, there have been several covers of the song that have been made so far. Several Hip Hop artists have laid their verses on the beat and from the looks of it, the song will stay relevant until no one knows.
The song has unified Zim Hip Hop artists, something that not usual in the genre. Rappers and singers have come together as a unit to prove that “rume rimwe harikombe churu” and for sure the song will go down in history as one of the songs that made non-Hip Hop fans to start listening to Hip Hop.
Of course there are artists who will not support the Fire Emoji movement and it is allowed to feel that way, one thing that some might not know is that you will never know when your breakthrough will come. If you can’t jump on the Fire Emoji craze, at least show solidarity and support, that is how we all win.
With artists like Saintfloew, Voltz JT, Phreshy, Holy Ten, Leo Maggoz, Suhn and others having released good albums and E.Ps this year, there has been so much music to choose from.
Zim Hip Hop artists this year have hosted shows and concerts that have went on to be successful and some have headlined big shows in the country.
In as much as some may want to disagree, the time for Zim Hip Hop might be now. It is important to note that for the buzz or limelight to stay for long, the Hip Hop fraternity should move as a unit and should support each other all the way to the bank.
With Fire Emoji spreading like a wild fire, the song might be the breakthrough that Zim Hip Hop needed all this time and it is up to the Zim Hip Hop community not to let that fire die down.
