Everyone knows that one of the most important aspects of Hip Hop music is that almost every dope Hip Hop record will eventually have an official remix and sometimes several unofficial and fan remixes. We have seen this from top Hip Hop artists in the world to our motherland Zimbabwe.
With the success that Fire Emoji had this year, it was inevitable not to have its official remix. We have already had fan remixes that have made rounds in the cyber streets, but, it is the official Fire Emoji Remix that has received mixed feelings from netizens. Was it necessary?
The original Fire Emoji joint had Leo Magozz, Bling 4 and Brian Jeck and in the remix which recently dropped, it features Buffalo Souljah, Nutty O, M-Killer, Holy Ten, Kikky Badass, Voltz JT as well as the artists in the original song.
If social media is anything to go by, M-Killer, Kikky Badass and Holy Ten came to the party well-equipped. M-Killer who is notorious for his slick freestyles and covers killed his verse, his delivery was top notch and people vibed to that “Twista” vibe in his verse. For Kikky Badass, it’s high time people stop comparing her to fellow femcees, she has shown us how lethal she can be behind the mic for a minute now. She outraps more than half of male rappers in the country (kana uine nharo go argue with your ancestors). Her verse was solid, her delivery might also be second to none and she is a dope rapper who deserves all the ‘Fire Emojis’. For Zim Hip Hop’s top artist, Holy Ten showed why the ‘ten’ in his name is for ten out of ten, his presence was felt and he didn’t disappoint, I didn’t expect the melody he roped in in his verse, that was pretty dope.
For Drill artists, well, they tried, Voltz JT went in, delivered his typical Voltz flow, it was nice though. Bling 4 has content, he might be the future of Drill in Zimbabwe and he did justice to his verse. Meanwhile Brian Jeck, *sighs* maybe Holy Ten was right about ‘munhu wese arikuimba Drill π‘ I just thought him and Bling 4 had their chance on the original Fire Emoji. For Mr Chizimbe there nothing to say, he is thee man!
On Dancehall, I think Nutty O was a perfect fit, he blended in seamlessly, the melodies in his verse vibed pretty well with the tune of the song. For someone on top of his game, he did an excellent job on this one. I would have loved to know how Buffalo Souljah was roped in on this remix, in as much as he tried to blend in, something is off with his verse. Maybe it was an opportunity for him to get more appreciation and recognition for what he has done and how he has represented Zimbabwe abroad.
Fire Emoji Remix is a good song and obviously our good friends at Zimcelebs will do the magic to push it, I have mad respect for them. One question that I picked up from social media comments and fans is, was the remix necessary and why?
By the way this is not a competition, it is a collaboration and Zim Hip Hop or maybe Zimbabwean music at large has won. However it’s inevitable not to compare π€·ββοΈ
