However, netizens are having none of it. The Hip Hop community came full force defending their own. Below are some of the comments made by different people replying KAPCITY.

Congratulations on becoming culturally relevant once again with this video though.
I hope you Kapitalize on this

Fam Nigerians say kukumba instead of Cucumber and they are winning grammys…
That strong accent is our identity…i hear you but rappin in american accent will get us compared with them and we will never win, Sarkodi has a strong Ghananian accent but it has made him a champion— MUDIWA (@MudiwaHood) July 11, 2022
This guy ๐๐๐๐ why should Zimbabweans sound like an American ? Does he even know that each country has their own accents to the same language? Kungoti vanhu ve hip hop madofo zvawo! Worku weki warke ndikoko what we want is good music uri English teacher here pic.twitter.com/uqoJXZ0cEn

Dude, why you acting like you aint never Nigerian music? People pronounce words differently and that's what it is. We aint trying to be American or nothing, coz we Zimbo. Straight.
— Tawanda Chamisa (@tawac) July 11, 2022
KAP๐งข
'we dont have identity'
'We have to pronounce words with an american accent'
What are you really trying to say bro ?
— Mlue Jay (@mlue_jay) July 11, 2022
Lol we're totally different from Americans though. Let them be ๐ inga ma Nigerians we understand wani with how they pronounce ๐
— Ronald Magweta ๐ฟ๐ผ (@ninja_reezy) July 11, 2022
Bro geraweyi we ain't Americans why should we sound like them really ๐ the important thing is to Rapp in English to target a large audience internationally. You think we aren't proud of our identity?? Mxxm let lost mhani as long tiri kujamba mangoma edu, tisiyeyi purizi iya
— Eastern Princess ๐ธ๐ฟ๐ผ (@HayzellTendai) July 11, 2022
You're the last person talk about identity, you want so hard to be American and that's why Zimbos never accepted you. You don't know our struggle, we can say wek if we want coz that's how most of us pronounce it. Let us create and if you don't like it skip the track!

Naa dont think so. Shonglish is cool like that. Its just same as Jamaican accent when they talking in English, Nigerian – & we love that about their pronunciation of words guided by their original language. #zvakanaka_zvakadaro. Jr Brown chibaba magona. Analysis yenyu toipa 3/10

Lets loosen the world is not one thing. Let them do their thing with those wrong pronunciations. Their audience is Zimbabwean after all. Let go with that Zim accent its still fine. There is till a lot in the world that we are yet to uncover. Maybe someone will develop from there
— Chelseafied (@ChelseafiedFC) July 11, 2022
If you donโt like the way Zimbabweans rap just change channel and keep it moving let the people that enjoy and understand listen to them.I hate people that judge as if they own the whole music industry. There is plenty of food for everyone. You do you and move on.
— Frank lupo (@fiyo420) July 11, 2022
Zimbabweans dialect has a lot of Irish, Gailic, Celtic and scottish under tones due to English being taught by catholic teachers since 1860. Grammy award winning Nigerians say Baard for bad and Bed. The real problem is Zimbabweans parrot their environment. Kap sounds American now
— Kuda (@begottensun) July 11, 2022
Naaaa, I disagree, we can't all have the cheesy accent like yours. They are rapping to people who understand want "work" means in their same accent. If you don't like it, there is always Young Joc to listen to
— Professor (@professor7080) July 11, 2022
Identity is in the accent ka , they canโt pronounce like Americans because they have their own languages that built their tongue ๐คจ Jamaicans and Nigerians for example. Why should they be American tho ๐ let them same werk!!!!!

The most nonsensical tweet๐๐๐. When you started giving those silly examples, I had to stop listening. If you make a bold claim, support it with strong points please pic.twitter.com/YUaEgmQDNg

That's our identity wani Chamunorwa, we don't work we weki. We identify with that hard energetic accent, by the way who the foku are you?
— Mesah (@BaRuvaaa) July 11, 2022
It's your condescending hot take masked in anti-blackness & Afrophobia for me. This is peak house nigg*r behaviour. Criticising people's accents because they don't sound American has nothing to do with their loss of identity, it's your lack of seeing beyond America. You are WRONG
— Thabi Ndhlovu (@ntshuni) July 11, 2022
KAPcity all I hear is ๐งข and contradictions
โOur problem is we donโt have an identityโ
โOur accents should sound Americansโ
Nah nigga that Zim accent is a signature to our sound.— _kays_๐ง๐ผ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฆ.sniper (@_kays___) July 11, 2022
From the way he is being roasted, it is no doubt Kap was capping!
