The organisers of the Zim Hip Hop Awards have announced that this year there will be a prize money up for grabs for artistes who will come out as winners at the upcoming awards ceremony, The ZimTainment has learnt.
Submissions for the annual awards ceremony ended last week and the organisers have already started working on the submitted works.
Speaking to The ZimTainment, the Zim Hip Hop Awards director, Aldrian ‘Beefy’ Harrison said that he and his team have decided to award five of the thirty categories with a prize money, something that he has described as a huge step in the right direction in the quest to motivate Hip Hop artists for their hard work.
There is going to be $2.5k up for grabs for the five categories and each winner is going to walk away with $500. The categories include; Best male artiste, Best female artiste, Song of the year, Best newcomer and Best video.
Justifying why they chose these five categories, Beefy said:
“I think it’s a start to something great and in the right direction, and I feel these five categories are the biggest. Don’t get me wrong, every category is important, but in every award show there is the premium category. So I have decided to lead from the front and start giving prize money to these accolades.”
“This is just the beginning, as time goes on we shall find more funds for more categories, and I have taken it upon myself to make the first move,” Beefy added.
Giving prize money to the award winners will greatly motivate the artistes to bring out the best in themselves, and considering that other awards organisers do not give prize money to the winners, this is a huge step taken by Zim Hip Hop Awards organisers.
The 7th edition of the Zim Hip Hop awards will be held in Harare on a date and venue soon to be announced.
