Award-winning Hip Hop artiste Tafadzwa Tarukwana who is popularly known as Asaph will headline the eighth edition of Shoko Festival alongside Farhan Esat and South African Moonchild Sanelly.

This year has been ‘Asaph season’ for the high-flying rapper who recently shared the stage with South Africa’s Shekhinah at Unplugged Zimbabwe.

Asaph is currently riding the wave of his monster hit, Mambo, which has spent more than six weeks at the helm of radio chart shows, something which is very unusual for Zim Hip Hop artistes.

The Mambo hitmaker will headline the show at the Harare City Library Grounds on Saturday 29th September before heading over to perform at the Peace in The Hood gig in Chitungwiza on Sunday 30th September.

Meanwhile, Moonchild, born Seneziwe Sanelly, will do a taster show at the Harare City Library Grounds on Saturday 29th September before the Peace in The Hood gig in Chitungwiza on Sunday 30th September.

Moonchild who sings in Xhosa and English is a pioneer of the burgeoning Gqom scene and the creative force behind the ‘Future Ghetto Punk Sound’ since 2007. She has churned out multiple hits including Rabubi (2015), F-Boyz (2017) and Weh Mameh (2018) as well as featuring on Dj Maphorisa’s massive hits Midnight Starrin, iWalk Ye Phara and Makhe in the last year.

The third of the headliners is South Africa-based comedian, Farhan Esat, who will head up a powerful line up of comedians at the Shoko Comedy Night set for REPS Theatre on 28th September.

A regular on the South African comedy circuit, Esat made his debut appearance in stand-up comedy in 2012 and developed into a professional in 2014. He earned a nomination for the Best New Comer of the Year at the South Africa Comics Choice Awards 2014.

Comrade Fatso, Shoko Festival Director said:

“This year we want to make Shoko about showcasing the dope, the alternative and the cutting edge in urban art.”

“We’re all about growing urban culture and pushing the boundaries of free expression. With the beautiful insanity of Moonchild Sanelly, the rising voice of Asaph and the challenging humour of Farhan Esat, I think we’ve got the right headliners to make this happen!”

Last year South Africa’s Emtee was one of the headliners with Cal Vin, Takura, Souljah Love and Simba Tagz forming part of the local artistes.
