Dynamites come in small packages, however, it is the efficacy of the small dynamite that matters most.
Such is the best way to describe young and upcoming R’n’B and Hip Hop singer Annastacia Yona, who has taken the R’n’B music industry by storm and indeed she is the next big thing.
The 18 year old singer started music seriously at the age of sixteen and that is when she recorded her first track.
“I started doing music wen I was little, I was sixteen, and I took it a bit serious and recorded my first track,” said Annasatacia.
For the love of Hip Hop and R’n’B, Annastacia’s singing and rapping capabilities made her want to pursue in those genres, though in Zimbabwe it seems as if they are still in their infancy stages.
“I call my genre Urban Hip Hop (lol) because it’s a mixture of R’n’B and Hip Hop, and I chose to do it because it really brings out the best out of me in both singing and rapping,” she said.
Just like any other industry, there are several challenges faced by artistes, and there are even more challenges especially when it comes to female artistes and Annastacia has not been spared from the problems.
“I have faced a lot of challenges, like producers,promoters, Djs and men out there who host most of the hip hop shows here in Zimbabwe are up to take advantage of young girls in the industry and if you say no they will remove you from their shows.”
“I have managed to overcome most of these challenges because I am managed by my mother, she makes sure that every show
or festival I get to, I will be safe and she makes sure I get on tours with responsible people since music is my life she makes sure I do it the right way.”
Having started music at a tender age, Annastacia is lucky to have full support from from her family and friends who appreciate her talent.
Her father and mother always advice her on the dos and don’ts of life as a musician and her brother Sean Ace who is also a rapper is the one who guides her when it comes to issues of music production.
Like any other upcoming artiste, Annastacia dreams of creating a name for herself and be influential through her music.
“I really wish to be influential with my music, to be able to change lives and I want to be a household name in Zimbabwe and around the world. I also wish to be nominated and win international music awards like the BETs,” she said.
Annastacia who already has an EP in her titled Teanage Dream in her name has released one video for her song Kekupedzisira and currently she is working on releasing her second video for her song Issues which is going to be directed by Andy Cutta.
The songstress has urged other young and upcoming girls to pray and believe in themselves and never let anyone stop them from doing what they believe in as long as they can take them to greater heights.
